Senior Director, Learning and Development - East Coast, USA
This company is in the business of improving people’s health and saving lives.
Years of strategic investment in R&D, combined with a series of acquisitions, have created a robust portfolio of products and services. Following sustained double-digit growth and record revenues, the business is now undergoing extensive reorganisation across all divisions. The objective is to achieve greater economies of scale, establish global consistency, streamline processes, reduce duplication and improve efficiency across the organisation.
Alongside this wide-ranging transformation agenda, there is a need to evolve, modernise and strengthen the Learning & Development function. The aim is to build critical enterprise capabilities, enhance leadership effectiveness and create long-term competitive advantage.
As a result, we are seeking a leader to take ownership of the L&D function and manage a small team. This individual will have the mandate to redesign and elevate the organisation’s offering, increase its value to the business and establish clear measures of impact and return on investment.
The workforce is distributed across multiple locations globally, and there is a clear appetite for L&D interventions. Demand for in-person programmes, tools and solutions may quickly exceed the function’s capacity to deliver. This is a positive challenge, but the ability to assess priorities and focus resources where they will have the greatest impact will be essential.
This is a highly commercial, data-driven environment where ROI is key. We therefore need an L&D professional who can influence through evidence, insight and analytics, rather than emotion alone, and someone who can demonstrate the measurable commercial improvements resulting from L&D interventions.
Our ideal professional will have successfully operated within the complex matrix structures of multinational organisations, bringing first-hand experience of what excellent L&D can look like. Equally important will be direct experience of “getting stuck in” and delivering practical solutions within a dynamic organisation undergoing significant change and transformation.
Success in this role will be supported by:
A career spanning specialist roles across Learning & Development, Talent and broader HR
Experience within science-driven, regulated industries, directly supporting R&D, scientific, technical and commercial workforces
Strong business acumen, with the ability to connect L&D investment to measurable commercial outcomes
A proven ability to deliver results within complex, global and matrixed organisations undergoing significant change
The ability to use data and analytics to prioritise investment, influence stakeholders and measure impact
A natural focus on accountability, delivery and continuous improvement
We also have a “wish list” of additional criteria that we will be pleased to share with suitably experienced L&D leaders.
Ideally, you will be based near one of the organisation’s East Coast locations. The role will require occasional, advance-planned travel across the USA and internationally to build and strengthen relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
On offer is a base salary of circa $260,000, plus a competitive package and relocation support if required.
Interested Learning & Development leaders are invited to apply directly and in confidence below. Interviews are currently underway, with a view to extending an employment offer in the coming weeks.
