Commercially savvy HR Director, USA based, from $150,000 base + package

HIGH PERFORMANCE LEADER COMMENCED AFTER SUCCESSFUL EMPLOYMENT OFFER

This global company is seeking a seasoned HR Director to report directly into a demanding General Manager, and be a key member of the executive leadership team.

This role will suit the HR professional with the commercial savvy to interpret a P&L and Balance Sheet – these business leaders have advanced financial awareness as a result of being in this high volume, low profit margin business; and the HRD will need to influence through data and facts rather than just emotion.   There's also an element of "grey and grizzly" within the leadership team, which means this role won't suit a modest wallflower offering theoretical HR interventions!

Supporting a mostly San Francisco based, blue-collar workforce; this HRD will need to manage labor cost controls, improvements for attraction/retention, and ensure a pro-active & harmonious relationship with the various unions present.  The company has appetite to build upon its employee engagement programs and develop talent from within – but the frameworks for these priorities need further development.

The company also needs to expand on its growth history by winning further business contracts, so anyone with previous M&A experience, and/or a keen interest in these activities, will be in their element.  A history of enabling commercial workforces would also be highly regarded.

Given the seasonal nature of some business units, any workforce planning skills will be useful as the regular workforce needs to be “topped up” significantly with contract labor, during key periods of the year (always a challenge in markets that have full employment currently!).

This person will lead a mid sized HR team of varying levels of capability, and those professionals will greatly benefit from mentoring and support to transition mind-sets to pro-active business partners rather than “policy police”.

In addition to all other priorities, this person will be expected to support peers in other regions on an array of global projects, and will be accountable for ensuring the local HR agenda is consistent with global strategies.  There are many more improvements to be made to talent management, data & metrics, global mobility, career frameworks, leadership coaching, succession planning, diversity & inclusion, and more!

There are multiple career progression options available, both lateral and vertical; within the USA and the many other global markets that this organisation has significant workforce presence within.

From USD 150,000 base + bonus + package (all negotiable dependent on experience levels), this role is available to US citizens and current US work visa holders only.  Relocation support is on offer for this high-profile role.  Occasional, planned travel can be expected across the USA and into Europe.

Our ideal HR leader will have:

  • a "can do" solutions focussed pragmatism

  • a track record of thinking strategically, and backing this up with day to day "hands on" as required (this is not a cushy corporate office job!)

  • a strong understanding of Californian labor laws in addition to other US jurisdictions

  • direct experience in dealing with the nuances of a blue collar, minimum wage workforce

  • ideally a history of working successfully through the complex matrix of an international organisation

  • proven success in leading and improving HR team service delivery
